Museum Curator

Assist in the preservation and care of the historic houses and collections of the park. Participate in the research, development, design, and installation of exhibits. Performs research to identify and /or authenticate museum objects; to discern techniques for restoration and preservation of objects in the collection; and to respond to collection related research requests. Observes and identifies long-term conservation needs and writes related project proposals to obtain funding for needed work. Maintains proper preservation, security and fire protection for collection storage, exhibits and furnished historic structures. Monitors, controls and maintains the environment for collections and exhibits including light, temperature, relative humidity and air quality and assists in managing an integrated pest management program for all museum facilities. Accessions and catalogs objects, verifying accuracy of information in collection records and files. Uses automated collections management data using Interior Collections Management System (ICMS) or similar. Develops reports, provides interpretive and reference service, and analyzes inventory and monitoring data using automated systems. Maintains liaison and effective working relations with related groups and individuals, agencies and the public. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience are:
providing direction over extensive museum collections and carrying out responsibilities in the four museum functions:
collections, exhibits, research, and education; collections management (in the areas of archeology, ethnology, history, archives, biology, geology, and paleontology), registration and cataloging; research, preservation, and restoration; or conservation of collections of museum material; or other experience related to this position. Education:
2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. Combination Education/
Experience:
May not have completed one full year of specialized experience as described above or the two years of graduate study in a field directly-related to the work of this position as shown above, but may have an equivalent combination of such education and experience. For example, six months of specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours of directly-related graduate level education in an accredited educational institution (50% of the qualifying education).
