Highway Research Engineer

As a Highway Research Engineer, you will:
Evaluate and manage roadway geometric design, safety analysis research, Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV) safety applications and speed management. Perform various research functions such as prepare detailed prospectus of the research to be performed, prepare technical summaries and coordinate the publication of the final reports. Perform independent research by planning, conducting, and scientifically documenting research findings. Collect and review other research regarding the evaluation of engineering, infrastructure and operational safety countermeasures. Assist the safety roadmap development and convey roadmap needs to leadership and other peers. Monitor project budgetary and technical aspects, interpreting research results, and ensuring the findings are applied to the best interests of the FHWA goals. The ideal candidate is a mid-career or senior professional with a strong background in roadway geometric design, safety and operational effects for roadway geometric elements, roadway safety analysis tools and methodologies, speed management, and Connected and Automated Vehicles safety applications. He/she also has significant knowledge of research methods and project management and oversight, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. It's also advantageous for him/her to have a wide range of experience in highway design, traffic operations, and highway safety research, along with a history of close association with State departments of transportation, local highway agencies, and private consultants in highway design and safety analysis. To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must (1) meet the Education Requirement for the series, (2) provide a copy of transcripts for verification, AND (3) meet the experience qualifications for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.To qualify for the GS-13, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-12, it must include:
Experience conducting research studies related to transportation safety on the topics such as roadway geometric design, safety analysis tools and methodologies, Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV) safety applications and speed management. Experience providing advice and technical assistance to State, local, or Federal practitioners or the private sector on highway safety or highway operations safety research results. To qualify for the GS-14, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-13, it must include:
Experience conducting research studies related to transportation safety on the topics such as roadway geometric design, safety analysis tools and methodologies, Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV) safety applications and speed management. Experience providing advice and technical assistance to State, local, or Federal practitioners or the private sector on highway safety or highway operations safety research results. Experience in program management. (i.e. Developing annual work plans, objectives, priorities, and/or schedules for accomplishment of work plans For all types of consideration, experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
