Principal Terrestrial Network Engineer

Job DescriptionYour role in helping us shape the future:
As a leading contributor, this position will manage the execution of the Terrestrial Network infrastructure, including circuits testing and acceptance.
You will be responsible for managing terrestrial circuits vendors delivery, escalations to ensure timeline delivery to meet Intelsat's revenues.
This role requires timely decision making in collaboration with all Network Engineering teams to troubleshoot performance and scalability issues related to circuits on Intelsat's network.
You must be able to communicate effectively with Intelsat upstream and downstream teams to define key requirements associated with terrestrial network connectivity.
We are looking for a strategic expert that is familiar with Terrestrial Network technology and can provide advanced technical leadership for migrating connectivity requirements to more cost-effective solutions.
In collaboration with other senior SME's, this position will partner with other key members of the Planning team to drive down Operating Expenses to make room for new technologies and services.
Are you up to the challenge? Lead terrestrial circuits testing and acceptance.
Execute performance test plans using industry standard testing tools, analyze and evaluate test results.
Focus will be on timely delivery of dependable circuits for Intelsat's backbone network as well as customers Provide technical support to internal customers including assistance in problem troubleshooting and resolution of network events and outages Apply expert level Network Planning skills and processes, including development and management of large and complex circuit forecasts, plans and budgets Develop High Level Plans to address network connectivity requirements and vet through Network Engineering Develop cost models and business case templates for circuits and colocation associated with the IntelsatOne ground infrastructure Anticipate and clearly articulate risks, opportunities, implications and options, as well as offer sound judgement and recommendations for mitigating program impacting events Coordinate with Planning and Design teams forecasted requirements and impacts to the Terrestrial Network Operating Budget Can you drive these processes?Coordinate migration from older network technologies to newer, more cost-effective designs; develop and drive process in Intelsat's database (e.
g.
ServiceNow) to manage inventory of backbone and customer circuits; implement processes to help reduce circuit delivery times You should definitely have:
A Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar discipline with at least five years of network and/or systems experience (or an equivalent amount of education and work experience) Must have Expert-level knowledge of Layer 1/2 Terrestrial Network Solutions such as Wavelength, Point to Point Circuits, Cross Connects, EVPL, and MPLS Must have experience implementing and testing physical terrestrial circuits with carriers and be able to trace end to end connectivity for all points of interconnect.
Must have experience with ordering and deploying Network Connectivity for backbone networks including wavelengths, IP Transit, MPLS and point to point circuits Must have experience running and analyzing results for circuit test gear including PROVA X.
Strong knowledge of software-defined networking (e.
g.
SD-WAN, Cisco ACI, EVPN) with any leading vendor platform Strong communication skills needed to provide weekly updates to internal and external stakeholders Must have knowledge of Terrestrial Network architecture including routers, switches, firewalls and be able to discriminate between production and management traffic Ability to analyze complex situations and utilize creative problem-solving abilities would be nice if you had:
